Calling Otumfuo a liar an inexcusable offense – Manhyia warns Mahama

Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Ashanti King

The seat of the Asantehene, otherwise known as Manhyia Palace has issued a strong word of caution to former President John Dramani Mahama to not forget the instrumental role the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tut II played in his becoming a vice president and subsequently the President of the Republic, ABC News can report.

According to Baffour Hyiaman Brentuo VI, a traditional ruler and special aide to the Asantehene, the former President will be an ingrate if he allows his cronies to convince the nation that the Asantehene is a liar.

Speaking at the UN High-Level Forum on the Culture of Peace at the Headquarters in New York, Otumfuo Osei Tutu said Manhyia was heavily involved in ensuring a violence-free election after the 2016 polls, a claim which has been heavily contested by a former chief of staff of the erstwhile Mahama administration, Julius Debrah.

According to Mr Debrah, the former President was not in any way persuaded to concede defeat as is being painted by the Ashanti Monarch.

“I state without equivocation that the decision to concede and congratulate Nana Akufo-Addo even before the official results were declared was taken by President Mahama himself without any persuasion from any quarter,” he indicated in a news release on the letterhead of the former President.

It is in reaction to this back and forth between the two parties, that the Spokesperson of the Asantehene is stating that there was indeed a meeting conveyed between the former President, the then electoral commissioner and the King at the end of 2016 to see to it that violence did not erupt.

“The meeting was between the then now- President Akufo-Addo, Mrs Charlotte Osei former electoral commissioner and Air Force Gen O.J were witnesses of the meeting. Mahama will be a colossal ingrate, even his appointment to Vice Presidency was mitigated by Otumfuo when Flt. Lt. Gen Rawlings would not allow him to be the running mate to the late Prof. John Atta- Mills in 2008? he noted.

He believes that to call the Ashanti king a liar is an offence that cannot be excused considering the benefits the former President has enjoyed through the help of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

“To call Otumfuo a liar or allow his cronies or to allow his people to disparage and pour vituperatives to such a benefactor who went to the extent of accommodating you during your tenure as President, is, to say the least very regrettable and inexcusable,” he said.

He further noted: “As a politician, he should remember that the Road to Power does not pass through Manhyia Palace but definitely through the indivisible Asante region where Otumfuo reigns and that his people will always remember him as an ungrateful politician. He shouldn’t forget where he danced to the “Y3n ntie obiara” music to the chagrin of the broad masses of Asante people that won Manhyia Palace displeasure of many Ghanaians. What disgusting betrayal from a “son’’.”

NPP Reveals: EC “Borrowed Our Pink Sheets For Collation In Techiman South Parliamentary Election” By   Aaron Grimes  - December 14, 2020 Facebook Twitter The New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Greater Accra has revealed that Ghana’s Electoral Commission borrowed pink sheets from the ruling party to help it collate votes that were used to controversially declare the NPP as winners in the Techiman South Parliamentary election. At a press conference in Accra today, the ruling party made the revelation to debunk what it said were accusations by the NDC that the NPP does not have pink sheets to prove that it won the election. “Anybody who claims that we don’t have our pink sheets is lying. Even at the collation center, when the Electoral Commission was looking for pink sheets they were consulting us because we managed to gather all our pink sheets few hours after the close of polls,” said Prince Yaw Donyina, a former MCE for Techiman. The revelation had been made inadvertently by Donyina...
