NPP Reveals: EC “Borrowed Our Pink Sheets For Collation In Techiman South Parliamentary Election”

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Greater Accra has revealed that Ghana’s Electoral Commission borrowed pink sheets from the ruling party to help it collate votes that were used to controversially declare the NPP as winners in the Techiman South Parliamentary election.

At a press conference in Accra today, the ruling party made the revelation to debunk what it said were accusations by the NDC that the NPP does not have pink sheets to prove that it won the election.

“Anybody who claims that we don’t have our pink sheets is lying. Even at the collation center, when the Electoral Commission was looking for pink sheets they were consulting us because we managed to gather all our pink sheets few hours after the close of polls,” said Prince Yaw Donyina, a former MCE for Techiman.

The revelation had been made inadvertently by Donyina who was trying to passionately convince journalists that the NPP had won the Techiman South seat even though it had earlier been declared for the NDC.

Techiman South had earlier been announced for the NDC, however, after the announcement, gun-wielding men in military uniforms stormed the town and caused mayhem. It has since emerged that the Returning Officer for Techiman had been threatened into reversing the results.

The NDC has vowed not to accept the reversed results.

However, addressing the press at the Greater Accra Regional campaign office of the NPP, Prince Yaw Donyina, said the NDC has been lying.

“They [security officers] were not there to intimidate anybody. It was because of the actions of the NDC, their chairman, their communicators that got a lot of people there [collation centres] and so there was the need for the police to protect the electoral officers… How could the declaration be made if collation was not done? That is an unacceptable electoral practice and could not have happened,” he said.
